Computex X ASUS - 2014.6.5

  Yesterday, as an intern of ASUS, I went to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center to participate the international Computex exhibition, one of the biggest technology events in Taiwan. When I stepped into Nangan exhibiton center, I saw plenty of businessmen wearing delicate suits and talking about the latest innovation. I was overwhelmed by the splendid, official atmosphere, for I've never participated in such important exhibition before. The display area in ASUS was way more well-designed than the normal 3C exhibition, with beautiful, tiny lego houses in Zenfone's display area and awesome video games in gaming area. The visitors in this exhibition were also quiet different; instead of asking about the products itselves, they usually ask about the future plan and prospect about our products. In addition, you can see people from all over the world visiting the exhibition, looking for the opportunity of cooperation; for example, I've met customers from India and France!! To me, it was truly a unforgettable experience to joint such official exhibition.

The Reason Why We're So Busy When The Graduation Is Up-coming.

    Recently, one of my friends, Eddie, discussed a topic with me-- why we're so busy when the graduation is up-coming. Since most of my friends, including me, have achieved the essential requirement of course in NCCU, it should be reasonable that we can have plenty of time to prepare for our future, to search for our job. However, as a matter of fact, I'm still overwhelmed with numerous kinds of papers. After our talk, I gather three main reasons to explain this weird phenomenon.

     First of all, this is the last time we could be students. Although four years sounds enough for students to undertake a number of classes, there are some remaining courses that we want to take, such as the history of movies. To me, graduate schools give more specific intelligence in academic sector that I want, but college provides wider information in general.

     Secondly, we have learned abundant knowledge during the last three years. Our ambition to put past experience into good use is so strong that we cannot easily goof around to get normal grades. Therefore, papers written by ourselves must have the good quality we approved.

     Last but not the least, working hard on academic papers is another way to prepare for our future. Trying practice more with academics to make these knowledge root in our memories will somehow benefit our future career life.

   Haha, actually, it is the event I planned and established lately. I attempt to increase the number of participants as many as I can. Originally, my teammates and I only promote this event on online forum such as Mobile01; however, it seems that users on such forum are not students and don't interest in the events. Consequently, we start to promote the event on Facebook, which most students are using it, and hope through Facebook to reach our target audiences, accelerating the number of participants. Can Voluntourism Really Help Poor People?

     Recently, I read an article on the internet that talks about spurious kindness of voluntourism. The author mention that voluntourism somewhat transforms into a way for affluent people to sightsee the poop residents in developing countries. It suddenly occurred to me about my experience of voluntourism in Nepal. Before the trip, I had expected the sophisticated training and lots of discussion of how to really ell the people there; however, I had only met one time with my partners. Though I had a really good time there teaching children there and made lots of Nepali friends, I felt that the whole voluntourism project was lack of consistency. That is to say, we got no chance to meet the former group who had visited there and discussed with them about how to improve the process. Moreover, we couldn't exert experience from them. I think it will be better to keep people who had been to the same place in contact and make sure the later people can reach them to get first-hand information. I hope I can get the contact information of later team, passing my experience and improving the whole project.

One Month Left before Graduation!!

 

 
    Not until this week did I realize that it is only one month left before graduation! Although I want to slow down the pace to enjoy the last, precious moment on campus, I am overwhelmed by lots of reports and tests. At the same time, I have to make time to prepare the paper work for the exchange program and organize the accommodation and the plane ticket. It's true that I am very excited about the exchange experience in Europe, but I start to feel sad about leaving NCCU. One of my friends told me that she wanted to step in to the restaurants that she has never experienced before. And to me, what I want to do most is to play guitar and hang out with my friends in the guitar club in the administration building again; however, since administration building has undergone the repair process, it isn't likely to happen. Still, I want to play basketball with my friends and experience the delight freedom while running on the court. It occurs to me that I still have lots of things to do as a college student, but time stop me to do so like a governor. I believe that college life is the most cherish period in my life and I will miss it badly when entering the society.

Empathy v.s Sympathy

  Yesterday, while browsing the internet, I found an fascinating animation video talking about the difference between empathy and sympathy. When I saw the title at the first time, I attempted to differentiate empathy and sympathy on my own; however, I was disappointed at the failure about this question. Therefore,  I was curious about how the video would explain the difference and clicked on the video.

  The video first used an example that one of your friends, let's say Sarah, falling into a deep hole and screaming for help. From the point of empathy, one would climb down the hole and try to feel what Sarah feels, hugging her and connecting with her. As from the point of sympathy, one would stay on the ground looking down to the hole and say "It's bad down there, right. Now..., do you want a sandwich?". This reveals the critical difference between empathy and sympathy: empathetic people would walk in others' shoes, while sympathetic people would stay out the feeling of others and attempt to comfort them with words. At last, the video also proposes that the sentences that sympathetic people use to comfort others always begin with "At least" and that what Sarah wants is not the encouraging words but the feeling of connection. Hence, next time your friends confront some tragedy or in a bad mood, try to talk to them like this: "I don't even know what to say. I just glad you told me." It would be better if you end with a warm hug!!

Pay Tribute to The Courageous Woman Saving Dozens of Lives.

   Last week, one South Korean ferry with hundreds of students on board accidentally sank into sea, resulting in hundreds of people failing to escape and still missing.What surprised the world was that almost all the cruise member escaped at the first place instead of attempting to save more passengers. However, not all the cruise members took their own lives more important than others'. A 22 year-old woman, also as a cruise member of that ferry, pulled the lock and made sure the bridge between the room and the exit be connected so that the  passengers could escape easily before she gave out her own life. 50 passengers, almost a third of lives  you may add to live, are believed to be saved by the brave woman. What's importantly, as the rescued passengers reported, she could originally escape easily because exit was right next to her, revealing the cherish courage she had. While hearing this news from CNN this morning, I am so angry at other cruise members, for they regarded their own lives more important than those of the passengers! If every cruise member on board could have been as brave as the 22 year-old woman was, the loss of this tragedy would not be this bad. I hope that I can take this courage woman as a role model, and someday I can use my own strength to save others.

Finally! Admission Letter has arrived!!

  Wow! I've waited for the admission letter for about a month, and it finally arrived at my gmail yesterday morning. I can finally start to prepare for all the necessary documents and find out courses that I'd be interested in. With the arrival of the letter, it also means that I have to find the accommodation. Previously, I've been thinking that whether I should find accommodation outside or inside the campus; hence, I, through one of my friends in guitar club, access to a girl who is an exchange student in the same college I'm about to exchange to right now and get lots of useful information from her. It is true that friends are always one's most cherish treasure! Right now, I hope that everything would stay on the right track and I can accomplish all the documents soundly! Netherlands, here I come!!!!!

Happy Birthday to ME!!

  It is so fast that I am heading to my 22ed year of my life. Thanks to my friends, yesterday was the first time that I started drinking beer, as my birthday present, in the afternoon!! Looking back to the previous 21 years that I have gone through, I have truly grown a lot mentally. I've also made some critical check on my college check list: achieving an opportunity to attend the exchange program to Netherlands, learning how to play guitar, and making lots of good friends. Most importantly, I find my interest  and strive to enter top-class international university. Right now, though this interest may seem uncertain and  unstable, I hope that I can confront any obstacles coming on my way and luckily find my position in the world by trial-and-error.  Less but not the least, faith on myself is the most important thing to me. I believe that someday in the future, when I finally achieve this goal, I read this blog again, I will be so proud of myself for my accomplishment of my goals.

Good Luck to My Sister!!

 Finally, I've passed through the overwhelming week. Though I was busy discussing the report with my classmates, I still made time to wish my sister happy 20th birthday by making a simple but sweet video for her( haha, it seems that I've mentioned it on the last blog, but anyway). I always think that my sister, Katie, is tougher and more independent than I am. Though only 18 years old, she went to Japan to study college and prepared all the daily work on her own. It appears to me that when I first entered college, my parents helped me a lot and all I did was sitting on the car enjoying all the hard work done by them. Recently, because she had to moved out college's dormitory, she collected all the information she needed to move the furniture and found a new house near the school. I am so impressed by her independence and maturity. I guess that she is no longer the little girl I knew and becomes a mature, tough woman who can handle every obstacles coming on her way. Thanks to the convenient communication applications like Skype and Line, my parents and I can talk and see her whenever we want. It seems that I have to try to be a more mature brother in case that, when next time meeting her, I would be look like her younger brother!!

What a exhausted week!

    This week I was bombard by report, gmat, intern, and my sister's birthday! Initially, I thought that my report could be done by Tuesday; however, while starting discussion with my group, we found that it was more complicated than we previously thought! As a result, we had to spend three more days to finish the report! Basically, 2a.m is the time when I got home this week! Not until 2a.m tuesday night could  I started to make the birthday video that I had promised my sister long time before, resulting in staying up late to 4a.m. While I finally thought that I've finished all the work and could take a rest, I suddenly thought up my work of intern on friday afternoon! Next time you happen to see me on the street, please call me superman!

Simple, Transparent Way is NEEDED to inform the public!

   

     Wow! It's another week. How fast is that. The most important headline this week must be that  student union protested against Cross-Strait Pact between Taiwan and China and broke into the legislature. I've always considered that this pact, which may bring benefit and disadvantage to Taiwan simultaneously, need to be implemented because only through opening the market and building relationship with more countries  can Taiwan survive economically in the future. However, recently I read about the articles that describe the disasters causing by the opening relationship between Hong Kong and China. This makes me start to be afraid that whether it would happen to Taiwan after the implementation of Cross-Strait Pact. I propose that government have the obligation to inform all the advantages and disadvantages of every piece of the contract to the public in a simple, transparent way. That way, people could know more about the impact of the pact and how to prepare to confront it.

A Whole New Start!!

  This week I finally start to face the reality of preparing the AT examination and go to cram school 4 times a week since this wednesday. This resembles the nightmare in hight school reminding me of the tiredness and pressure; nevertheless, the state of mind confronting these pressure have changed into a more open-minded and relaxing condition which I feel energetic and passionate rather than exhausted and sleepy while sitting in the classroom. All I attempt to do is thinking of the achievement I would acquire after finishing the test and getting a good grade. This positive thinking really help me a lot to stay strong while feeling tired or unwilling to focus on the class. I am surprised at the growth inside my mind and at how I fight with this difficulties successfully so far. Now, the most important task setting in front of me is that how far I can stay strong and whether I can fight whole-hearted until the bell rings.

Getting on the right track

   This is the first time writing a blog in english. I remember the last time doing so is in high school, most of the paragraphs were about the perssure of studies and the tiresome preparation of entrance exam of college. However, that  blog website was shut down last year and, most worsely, I didn't make the copy of it losing all the content, probably the three-year hardwork in total. Now, here I am again, starting to set up a whole new blog life, surprisingly, for english writing class! I guess it's somehow the sign of god telling me to move on.

   Recently, I am preparing for my exchange program to Netherland, whcih locates in the center of western Europ easily to traveling around other countries. Though I am excited about it, I've been distracted by lots of things from and couldn't find a time to search the information needed to prepare before arrival; however, sometimes I think I'am just too lazy to do so. Luckily, there is a girl who also exchange to the same college of mine puts lots of hard work studying the website and passionately informs me of all the context she acquired. Thanks to her, I'am finally getting on the right track; tough, I feel a little bit embarrassed because I suppose to have lots of free time doning so.
